Black belt grading success for Tom and Jake O’Hagan.

On Sunday April 26th at the Bristol Dojo both of Kevin’s sons Tom and Jake graded for their black belt 1st Dan’s in Combat Jujutsu.

Both guys have trained in their father jujutsu system since they were six years old. Some may say at the ages of 24 and 21, the grading was well overdue.

But being Kevin’s son’s they wanted it on merit and hard work and this they achieved.

Both guys have been heavily involved in MMA in recent years. With Jake having to date 12 fights and Tom 11.

They had put their jujutsu on the back burner for a while. But this year both decided to set time aside to grade and carry o their father’s art for the future.

The 2 hour grading was nonstop and uncompromising. A incredible amount of technique was shown from throws, takedowns locks and chokes to weapon defences ,multiple opponent defences, stand up and floor, Pad work and sparring.

In the end both guys showed tremendous jujutsu skills along with great heart and courage.

Many thanks to my veteran jujutsu instructors Tony Watt, Pete Dunn, and Richard Williams for helping out and also for all who came to support .

Kevin quoted.”This is an extremely proud moment for me to see my boys achieve their black belts .It is something we have talked about since they were kids. I hope this is another big step forward for my jujutsu system to keep progressing for the future. It will be in good hands.

Kevin receives his 7th dan full masters grade in combat jujutsu

At the close of kevin's successful and insightful book launch party, his son's Tom and Jake had a suprise in store for him.They presented him with his 7th dan full masters grade in combat jujutsu.

Two certificates were presented. One from Dave turton head of the self defence federation and one from peter consterdine and geoff thompson of the british combat association plus letters of accolade for kevin's 34 years of dedication to the martial arts world.

It was a fitting end to a great evening, where Kevin talked about his varied career. It was insightful and entertaining and had the audiences full attention for an hour or so.

After Kevin signed copies of all his books and talked with guests.The evening post newspaper was also there to cover the event. Thanks to all who attended and supported the evening making it a huge success.

MMA getting bigger and better

Since my recent move to the Bristol Dojo, Avon St. St.Phillips, my MMA classes have just got busier and busier. The guys just keep coming through the doors in search of quality MMA instruction. We have a fantastic facility which is just going to get better as owners Simon and Maria O’Brien keep working to make the Bristol Dojo the premier Martial Arts Centre in Bristol and the surrounding areas.

I have worked hard along with my sons Jake and Tom to establish the correct framework of MMA to cater for all people whether they are novices or seasoned fighters. We have a commitment to teach quality MMA to all comers. Whether they want to go on to fight or just enjoy the combat sport for fitness and self defence we can cater for them.

I have been involved with MMA since 1995 and have trained at many venues in Bristol. It would be fair to say that a big percentage of people training in MMA in and around Bristol have trained under me at one time or another. Names that at present are well known in the MMA arena such as James ‘the Colossus’ Thompson, Paul Reed, Wesley Murch, Ross Mould, Greg Knapp and many more have trained at my classes over the years and gone on to do their own thing and be successful.

At present I have a great team of amateur fighters that have stuck together and trained hard. They are having great success in the Welsh Grapple and Strike league. This includes both my sons.

It is no easy task to prepare fighters for the MMA arena. As a coach I have had many setbacks and disappointments but just as when I was fighting in the arena myself I grit my teeth, pick myself up and keep going.
