REALITY CHECK SEMINAR
Sunday 28th February saw the BRISTOL DOJO host a one day seminar with Kevin O'Hagan, Iain Abernethy and Steve Williams.
A good attendance were taught practical power striking techniques by Iain and Steve, covering punching, elbows, knees and kicks all developed on the pads and shields. Ranges, footwork and power and ko delivery were all covered in detail.
Kevin worked the grappling side of things and treated the assembled students to his brand of combat jujitsu and his vast repetoire of grappling knowledge. Topics covered were escaping side headlocks standing and on the ground. Ground chokes and neck cranks. Clinching against wild flurries of punches and delivering the hip throw from the clinch and then down to floor finishers from cross body and mount positions.
The seminar was an intense six hours with top class instruction and great spirit and enthusiasm from all who attended. It was huge success and it will go a long way to making the BRISTOL DOJO 'the martial arts centre of the south west'.

Happy New Year!
Hi, Firstly Happy New Year!
My name is Jake O' Hagan; you won't know me personally but I believe that somewhere down the line during your martial arts training you have come across my father Kevin O' Hagan.
I am sending you this email to let you know that Kevin will be hitting the seminar circuit more regularly again this year and is currently looking to book possible hosts, venues and location to hold them.
Given your background and system that you train in I have sent you this email to see if you would be interested in being one of our hosts this year.
O'Hagan Total Combat Systems believes that with Kevin's extensive experience and qualifications; including fighting at pro rules in the cage or achieving his 7th Dan masters grade in combat Ju Jutsu last year; that there is no topic in the martial arts world he can not tackle. Learning from the early UK pioneers in Ju Jutsu such as Mickey Upham, Dave Turton,Mike Marshall, Bryan cheek Allan Tattersall,Trevor Roberts ,Robert clark and Richard Morris and combining this with his reality based training and experiences along side people such as Geoff Thompson and Peter Consterdine he has successfully modernised these sometimes opposing forces into one workable combat system, flying the flagship for all martial arts in the past and present era. So...
If there is a topic you think yourself or your club would benefit from or if you would like to experience Kevin's unique system I am sure we can facilitate the right seminar opportunity for you; so whether it's old school Ju Jutsu, man stoppers or just some no-nonsense weapon defence, Kevin is adaptable enough to provide this.
If you are interested and want to find out more details on Kevin's availability, pricing and seminar structure please do not hesitate to email me backat, jakeohagan@ymail.com or call me on 07789865284.
Thank you for your time

Black belt gradings. Dec 13th 2009.
Congratulations to Dave Tanner and Richard Williams for joining a very exclusive club by both achieving their first dan black belts in my Combat jujutsu system. Both men have been loyal practitioners for many years and after an extremely tough and thorough two hours both men emerged beaten and battered but successful. Well done to you both. Respect.
Welsh grapple and strike finals 5th dec 2009
Well done to all the fighters who made it through to the finals this year. I was proud of the fact that we had, Tom O'Hagan at lightweight, Jake O'Hagan at welterweight, Adam Thomas at middleweight and Tony Cogell at light heavyweight, also Dale Utting fighting in the knockout Christmas cup. Congratulations to Tony who won the lightheavyweight belt and all the others who fought out of their skins to lose heart-rendingly close decisions. Well done all of you. TEAR UP MMA SHOW A SUCCESS - NOV 21ST 2009
Big congratulations to my son Jake and his business partner Andy Cleeves for organising a superb first mma show. This was a huge task and no mean feat. With the added help of family and friends pitching in everything went well. Big thanks also goes to the Bristol impact gym fighters on the night.Young and up and coming Dale Utting turned in a solid performance in a very tough fight to narrowly lose, but what a two rounds of action. Fight of the night went to veteran pro Ross Mould for turning the tables in the 3rd round of an explosive fight to beat opponent Harvey Dimes via triangle leg choke.Once again Ross showed the heart of a warrior. We all look forward to the next one in 2010. It was also good to see Kevin O'Hagan return to the cage at 48 years of age for an mma exhibition bout with his oldest son Tom. It went down a storm.
Kevin receives his 7th dan full masters grade in combat jujutsu
At the close of kevin's successful and insightful book launch party, his son's Tom and Jake had a suprise in store for him. They presented him with his 7th dan full masters grade in combat jujutsu.
Two certificates were presented. One from Dave turton head of the self defence federation and one from peter consterdine and geoff thompson of the british combat association plus letters of accolade for kevin's 34 years of dedication to the martial arts world.
It was a fitting end to a great evening, where Kevin talked about his varied career. It was insightful and entertaining and had the audiences full attention for an hour or so.
After Kevin signed copies of all his books and talked with guests. The evening post newspaper was also there to cover the event. Thanks to all who attended and supported the evening making it a huge success.
MMA getting bigger and better
Since my recent move to the Bristol Dojo, Avon St. St.Phillips, my MMA classes have just got busier and busier. The guys just keep coming through the doors in search of quality MMA instruction. We have a fantastic facility which is just going to get better as owners Simon and Maria O’Brien keep working to make the Bristol Dojo the premier Martial Arts Centre in Bristol and the surrounding areas.
I have worked hard along with my sons Jake and Tom to establish the correct framework of MMA to cater for all people whether they are novices or seasoned fighters. We have a commitment to teach quality MMA to all comers. Whether they want to go on to fight or just enjoy the combat sport for fitness and self defence we can cater for them.
I have been involved with MMA since 1995 and have trained at many venues in Bristol. It would be fair to say that a big percentage of people training in MMA in and around Bristol have trained under me at one time or another. Names that at present are well known in the MMA arena such as James ‘the Colossus’ Thompson, Paul Reed, Wesley Murch, Ross Mould, Greg Knapp and many more have trained at my classes over the years and gone on to do their own thing and be successful.
At present I have a great team of amateur fighters that have stuck together and trained hard. They are having great success in the Welsh Grapple and Strike league. This includes both my sons.
It is no easy task to prepare fighters for the MMA arena. As a coach I have had many setbacks and disappointments but just as when I was fighting in the arena myself I grit my teeth, pick myself up and keep going.
