Jake O'Hagan makes his debut
Jake O'Hagan recently made his MMA debut at the Combat Sports Open Trials. He put on an awesome performance and showed good potential. The first fight went to a draw after a dominating performance by Jake. The seond fight was a close thought battle with Jake unfortunatly losing to an armbar from excellent opponent James Hodges. A solid performance (and possibly a record for the most punches thrown in 4 minutes).

In April we saw Kevin O’ Hagan step back into the cage at 43 years of age at ultimate Combat 9 to fight in a Welterweight world title eliminator against Turkey’s Sami Berek.
Kevin was in superb shape although he was giving his opponent some 18 years plus in age. Berek is an up and coming fighter who is a very quick and slippery opponent. The fight was extremely explosive with Berek running out at the bell unleashing a fast combination of punches and kicks. Kevin weathered the storm, clinched and they hit the floor. From there a battle of positions, reversals and submissions and strikes ensued.
There was not much in it. Kevin escaped a keylock from Berek and opened up with his ground and pound to head and body. Twice he got on Berek’s back and looked to sink the choke in. On the second occasion with seconds left on the clock for the first 5 minute round, Kevin succeeded in sinking in the choke and Berek tapped.
Kevin received a rapturous response from the huge home based crowd in Bristol. It was truly a momentous moment in Kevin’s long Martial Arts career. At an age where most guys are playing a round of golf and having a pint in the bar, Kevin shows what hard training, discipline and belief can achieve.
 ‘Britains hardest’
You may have caught the Sky TV programme Britains hardest earlier this year. The show pitted 32 of Britains hardest men against each other in tests of physical and mental indurance.
Our own Kevin O’ Hagan won through trials to be one of the 32. Although he didn’t make the finals of the programme he put up a good show in the heats against top-notch opponents.
Well done Kevin for once again showing the spirit to test yourself under extreme conditions. Some of the shows events included, smashing through doors with your fists and feet, holding back a car which was running away from you, being buried in sand and wrestling on a raised podium. The shows referee was none other than Ian ‘the machine’ Freeman. Show presenter was Steve ‘AKA Phil Mitchell’ McFadden.

KEVIN O'HAGAN VS ANDY PROCTOR
Reported by Rob Cannon
Well, well, well. Did you ever doubt it ?No one had prepared harder for this fight than Kev.The weeks of hard training ,focus and preparation showed in what was a calculated and professional performance, beating his opponent with a strategic game plan that could not have been better executed.
Out went the fearless brawler that we all know and love and in stepped a completely changed fighter. No one had ever questioned Kev's strength and conditioning and he was on top form for this match up. The difference this time was his mental strength, technical ability and focus.
After a deafening ring entrance with a 1000 strong crowd at Whitchurch sports centre Bristol cheering on the local hero. Kev peeled of the layers to show a physique that put younger fighters to shame.
Kev's opponent in this mma match was Andy Proctor from Scotland a ex commonwealth wrestling champion and a wily fighter. The bell rang and Kev circled his opponent working behind the jab and careful of the counter takedown. It takes a hell of a lot of bottle to stand your ground and be patient when most fighters get it to the ground quick. This tactic paid off when Kev launched his first of many punching flurries landing a solid left hook that visibly shock Proctor.Kev stayed cool and took his opponent down taking top control and landed some solid body shots that could be heard at the back of the hall.Kev managed to secure a guillotine choke but Proctor stood up forcing the clinch and the toe to toe action stared again. THIS WAS THE KEY POINT OF THE FIGHT WHEN Kev showed the mental strength to break the clinch and start trading again, this surprised his opponent.Kev took the fight to the floor again He got be the back of Proctor and slammed home some punches and big knee shots.Kev continued to dominant on the floor but his wily opponent avoided the final submission well. When the bell sounded kevin was announced the unanimous decision.
Kev out punched, out thought and outclassed his opponent in a display of professionalism and sticking to a solid game plan .A week from his 40 th birthday it was certainly an early present for him!
